Introduction:

Video games, transcending their conventional entertainment role, have become a multifaceted medium used for learning, training, and rehabilitation. They offer a plethora of experiences, allowing users to explore new emotions, face challenges, and interact with diverse environments and characters. However, the predominantly visual and interactive essence of video games often creates accessibility hurdles for individuals with visual impairments. A groundbreaking study conducted by María Eugenia Larreina-Morales and Carmen Mangirón investigates the untapped potential of Audio Description (AD) in video games, aiming to dismantle these barriers and foster a more inclusive and enriched gaming experience for visually impaired players.


Audio Description in Gaming:

Audio Description serves as a transformative tool that narrates visual elements, enabling individuals with visual impairments to comprehend and interact with predominantly visual content. The gaming industry has witnessed substantial advancements in incorporating inclusive features such as audio cues and text-to-speech technology.
